God's Sense of Humor!

You know, why do I try to stress and figure out the future of things when God has it all figured out and planned already??!?! You would think I would get that through my crazy brain, but I admit, I don't at times. And you know what, when I say that I will never do something, God has a sense of humor and shows that HE is in charge, and not ME! Let me give you three examples of God's sense of humor....

First of all, with Kyle. When I first met Kyle, we was a basketball player that said he would NEVER coach himself. He is a Varsity Assistant at Memorial High School, and has been coaching now for 5 years. I have seen him become such a positive influence in a rough crowd and his passion for coach has grown so strong! He then always said he would NEVER become a Head Coach, yet applied this summer for a Varsity position. God knew what was best in that situation and thankfully shut that door, but I have no doubt we will be back down that path soon! And then he said he would never coach at a college level, and just this weekend I heard him saying he would enjoy doing that some day... So, never say never!

Secondly, I was reminded this weekend of something I said in High School as I did a devotional. The devotional was on our comfort zones and we had to write down the one place that we did not want God to call us to; the place that we would have a hard time following and saying "YES" to God. Do you know what mine was? AFRICA. I can still SEE that word "Africa" written on that page. WOW, how God has a sense of humor! Now I have such a passion to make a difference in the lives of Children in Africa! Our church has built an orphanage in Kenya and I have wanted to visit for many years now, just to hold those precious babies and show them the love that they so deserve. And, ever since Kyle and I got married, we said it would be awesome to adopt a child from Africa, but never really seriously considered it until lately. AND, I am working hard helping others earn a FREE Kenya Safari this next year, where we will be supporting a child for an entire year of schooling as we go! So, does God KNOW the future or what? He knew EXACTLY where I didn't ever want to go, but changed my heart from being scared to having so much passion for this place!

And finally, I had the amazing opportunity in college to do a Semester Abroad program for 3 1/2 months to China, Australia, and New Zealand! It was life changing as I got to see the world, and it really solidified Kyle and my relationship through distance, as we were engaged just 3 short days after I came home! But, this is where the humor comes in... we had to take 2 semesters of Chinese! Why is that humor....well because I was TERRIBLE at it, and quite frankly, didn't take it too serious because I thought, "When will I EVER have to know Chinese in my lifetime." So, sadly, I put just enough effort into it to get by, but didn't retain much more than "Hi" and "I love you" in Chinese. So again, why the significance? Well, after many years, I have now reconnected with our amazing translator and teacher from our trip and are launching our business into China! I now get to help others halfway around the world build a future for themselves and their families, become healthier, and help the planet! Oh dear....if only I had paid more attention, but forth more effort, and cared a little more with my Chinese! Looks like God might have a few more "Chinese lessons" in my future!!

So, all in all, God sure has a sense of humor to take this flawed person and plan my destiny based on HIS plan and not mine! And it sure is a good thing it isn't my plans that matter, because who knows where we would be! :) I am so humbled with what God is doing, and I have learned my lesson....NEVER SAY NEVER! :)
