Many people have been asking me lately about the business that Kyle and I are so passionate about, and asked how we got involved with it. Well, here is our story of "WHY."
Kyle and Kara Sears- Elkhart, IN
New Shaklee Directors AND Sr. Directors - Oct. 2010
My “Why”
Growing up in a Shaklee Home, I have always known the benefits of Shaklee’s great products, but also always saw Shaklee as “My Parents’ Business.” However, when I became a mom myself, I began to really realize what Shaklee gave me as a child growing up. I consider myself blessed to have had my parents doing a job where time wasn’t an issue. If I had an event at school, they were there. If I forgot my homework, they were able to bring it to me without getting in trouble from their boss. (Although I probably got in trouble for forgetting it! Ha!) When I had NUMEROUS sporting events, they were always there, cheering me on. We were able to take family vacations when we wanted to, instead of working around a week or two a year of work vacation time. I always had parents at home when I got home from school, instead of being shipped off to a babysitter. And I enjoyed going on many LUXURIOUS Shaklee vacations, such as Hawaii, Vancouver, a Caribbean Cruise, and London, all of which we would never have been able to afford without Shaklee. So, in one word, I was “SPOILED!”
I went to college to pursue a teaching degree, because I was passionate about kids, and honestly, because it would offer me the most flexible schedule around my future kids. Kyle and I got married in May of 2006 and we started using Shaklee products in our own home. In March of 2009 we gave birth to our little girl, Payton. I quickly realized that I wasn’t cut out to be a teacher with a schedule where I would have to leave my baby girl every day for long hours. Kyle and I made the commitment for me to stay at home with her, and we began to look at Shaklee. My “why” was there- I wanted to stay at home with my baby- but it wasn’t strong enough, so with a few “no’s” Kyle and I rolled over and gave up with Shaklee. I got a part-time job where I would only have to be away from Payton for a few hours a week, and I “thought” I was happy. In October of that same year, I became pregnant with our second child. I continued with my part time job, but was enjoying it less and less, still not wanting to leave my child. I began to do some “gut checking” where I started to think about what I REALLY wanted my future to look like for my family. I wanted to be a TRUE stay-at-home mom, especially when baby #2 came along. So, in July of 2010, our son, Ethan was born. With Kyle being a teacher himself, money was tight and I knew I HAD to do something to bring in some income, but didn’t know what.
On August 5, 2010, my answer came. I sat at home with a newborn and a 16 month old, GLUED to my computer, listening to Roger Barnett in Anaheim giving ME an answer. I still get goose bumps when I replay his message because it was such a turning point in our future and the answer to my many prayers. My answer was the Dream Plan. It truly was MY DREAM- A plan that would allow me to pursue my Dream, helping others, while being able to be an involved mommy to my kids. (And not to mention travel the world in STYLE and drive a new car!) I texted my husband immediately and told him that Shaklee was DIFFERENT now. We talked about it and decided that if we were going to go for Shaklee again, that this time it would HAVE to be different. It was up to us, and it was ALL in our thinking. We had to BELIEVE we could do it and share it enthusiastically with 110% effort. I remember clearly, about a week later, driving away from my crying kids with tears rolling down my OWN cheeks, heading to my part time job. I called my mom, BALLING, and said, “Shaklee HAS to work!! I can’t leave my kids like this anymore!” That was my turning point! I had to have a “WHY” that would make me CRY in order to make it stick and to push me on those tough days in the business!
So we took off! The last 2 months have been a whirlwind as we have been sharing Shaklee with anyone and everyone we could think of. We started with some good friends of ours who were in the same boat- the mom wanting to be a stay-at-home mom. She and I committed to this, and were determined to make this work. We have had a BLAST along the way, and I am so proud to say that they, Nic and Tori Minder, are NEW FASTtrack Directors!! This in turn made us SKIP past the mark of Director and push on to Sr. Directors this month! We couldn’t be more excited with the growth and commitment in our team. We are SO excited for the months ahead as we see BIG things coming down the road. Our goal is to be Coordinators by the end of November, and Sr. Coordinators at least by January! We WILL make it because we are committed and so excited with what Shaklee has to offer!
And now our dreams are coming true! I am able to stay at home with our kids and in the near future, Kyle will be able to as well. We are going to be driving a new van in the next few months, getting some nice bonuses, and traveling the world in style! Thank you SHAKLEE and Roger Barnett for making those dreams a reality!! I am still pinching myself because it is REALLY happening!!!
**So, as you can read, we are PUMPED and excited about where things are headed! God has everything under control and we trust Him with our future moving forward! God is SO good!
